Permanent engine-inspection exemption for school bus drivers
This bill would make permanent the exemption from the engine-compartment part of the pre-trip inspection skills test for certain school bus drivers. It would adopt the exemption published in the Federal Register on December 2, 2024 (89 Fed. Reg. 95348) and apply the terms in paragraphs 2–6 of section VII.B. of that notice (89 Fed. Reg. 95351). For six years after enactment, any State that uses the exemption would send one annual report to the Secretary of Transportation. Each report would list how many drivers obtained a commercial driver’s license under the exemption.
