Paws Off Act of 2025
Sponsored By: Representative Schweikert, David [R-AZ-1]
Introduced
Summary
Requires clear dog-toxicity warnings on foods that contain xylitol. The Paws Off Act of 2025 would amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to make any food with xylitol misbranded unless its label warns about xylitol's toxic effects for dogs. It would direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services, acting through the Commissioner of Food and Drugs, to issue an interim final rule within 6 months and a final rule within 1 year to implement the labeling requirement. Manufacturers would need that warning to sell products containing xylitol.
