Deerfield River protection study proposed
If enacted, this bill would direct the Interior Department to study the Deerfield River for possible Wild and Scenic status. The study would cover the entire river in Massachusetts and Vermont, plus the North, South, East, and West Branches. It would also include the Green River, North River, South River, Clesson Brook, Chickley River, Cold River, Gulf Brook, Bog Brook, and Dunbar Brook. The Secretary of the Interior would need to finish the study and report to Congress within 3 years after funding is made available. No funding amount is set. This could lead to future protections or new river rules, but there would be no immediate changes for residents.
