Blocks state backdoors and encryption bans
If enacted, this would stop states and local governments from forcing tech makers to change security to let governments read messages or search devices. States could not require companies to be able to decrypt users’ data. It would also bar states from banning the sale or offer of devices or online services because they use encryption. The rules would cover hardware, software, electronic devices, and online services offered to the public and sold across state lines. It would apply to states, local governments, D.C., territories, and federally recognized Tribes.
