Fire Island AIDS Memorial Act
Sponsored By: Representative Garbarino, Andrew R. [R-NY-2]
Introduced
Summary
Would authorize a non‑federally funded Fire Island AIDS Memorial to honor local residents who died of AIDS and teach visitors about the epidemic. The bill would let the Pines Foundation establish and maintain the Fire Island AIDS Memorial inside Fire Island National Seashore along the walkway between the Fire Island Pines and Cherry Grove, adjacent to the Carrington House. The National Park Service Director would have to approve the final design, but could not use Federal funds to design, install, or maintain the memorial and may accept non‑Federal donations and resources for those purposes.
