Ban new offshore oil and gas leasing near Florida

If enacted, the Interior Secretary would be barred from issuing new federal leases or other approvals for oil and gas exploration, development, or production in three Florida offshore areas. The ban would cover: the Eastern Gulf of Mexico area named in the 2006 Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act; the South Atlantic planning area south of 30 degrees 43 minutes North, as shown in the 2024–2029 leasing program (September 2023); and the Straits of Florida planning area from that same program. This would apply even if another law says otherwise. Rights under leases issued before enactment would stay in place. The ban would take effect upon enactment.
