Veterans’ Telecommunication Protection Act
Sponsored By: Representative Van Drew, Jefferson [R-NJ-2]
Introduced
Summary
Residential-rate parity for veterans' organizations. This bill would add Section 723 to the Communications Act and require providers to charge a veterans' organization at its primary operating property the same lower residential rate they would charge an individual household at that address when that residential rate is less than the organization's usual rate. It covers cable service and non-commercial voice service and explicitly excludes commercial mobile service. A veterans' organization means one recognized by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs under 38 U.S.C. 5902. The rule would apply to services provided on or after enactment.

Residential cable and phone rates for veterans' groups
The bill would make cable and voice providers charge VA‑recognized veterans' organizations the lower residential rate at the property where the group mainly operates, but only when that residential rate is cheaper than the usual business rate. Covered services would be cable service and voice service; mobile/cell service would not be covered. This would apply only to service delivered to the organization’s primary location. If enacted, it would apply to services provided on or after the date of enactment.
