Bigger hiring credit for veterans
If you own a business, you could get a bigger Work Opportunity Tax Credit for hiring qualified veterans. The credit would be 50% of first-year wages for a qualified veteran. Veteran wage caps would rise to $18,000, $21,000, or $36,000 by category. For other eligible hires, the rate would be 40% of first-year wages. Wage caps for non‑veterans would not change. If the hire does not meet the minimum employment period, the rate would be 25%. These rules would apply to people who start work after enactment.
