Passed House
Summary
Extends the Army's Chapter 40 leave rules to commissioned officers of the Public Health Service and their beneficiaries. The bill adds "Chapter 40, Leave" as item (22) to Section 221(a) of the Public Health Service Act so PHS commissioned officers and their beneficiaries are covered by the same Chapter 40 leave framework that applies to Army officers and repeals Section 219. The change does not create new funding or set new eligibility criteria.

Army leave rules for Public Health Service officers
If enacted, commissioned Public Health Service officers would get the Army’s Chapter 40 leave rights. Their beneficiaries would also receive any related leave benefits under that chapter. The change would take effect upon enactment. It would also repeal an older Public Health Service leave section as a clean-up.
