Summary
Expands eligibility for the Saver's Credit and the Saver's Match. The bill would remove the prior "full-time student" restriction and instead make people eligible if another taxpayer can claim a Section 151 deduction for them in the same year.
Show full summary
- Families and taxpayers who claim dependents: Parents or other taxpayers who can claim a Section 151 deduction for someone would make that person eligible for the Saver's Credit and Saver's Match when they make retirement contributions.
- Part-time students and other dependents: People who were excluded solely because they were not full-time students could now qualify for the credit and the match.
- Timing and program mechanics: The Saver's Credit change applies to contributions made after enactment. The Saver's Match change would take effect as if included in Section 103 of the SECURE 2.0 Act of 2022.

Retirement tax help for dependents
If enacted, people claimed as dependents, including full-time students, could qualify for the Saver's Credit and the Saver's Match when they put money into a retirement account. You would still need to meet current income limits and make qualifying contributions. For the Saver's Credit, this would apply to contributions made after the date of enactment. For the Saver's Match, it would take effect as if it had been part of section 103 of the SECURE 2.0 Act of 2022.
