10-year goal to finish Divide Trail
If enacted, the Agriculture and Interior Secretaries would set up a joint Trail Completion Team within 1 year. The team would work with the Trail administrator and consult states, Tribes, local governments, landowners, land-grant mercedes owners and users, acequias, volunteers, and nonprofits. The Agriculture Secretary would finish a full development plan within 3 years of the team’s start, mapping gaps, using willing-seller easements, and listing site plans and costs. With funding, the goal would be a continuous Trail within 10 years of enactment.
No new land powers for Trail
This bill would not give the government new power to buy or take land for the Trail beyond current law. Agencies would not get new eminent domain powers. Trail land purchases would not be treated as a higher priority than other federal land buys.
