It would amend the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act to prohibit issuing leases for exploration, development, or production of oil or gas in the Mid-Atlantic Planning Area shown in the 2024-2029 National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Proposed Final Program.

No new Mid-Atlantic offshore oil leases

If enacted, the Interior Secretary would be barred from issuing new oil and gas leases in the Mid-Atlantic federal offshore area. The ban would cover the Mid-Atlantic Planning Area shown in the 2024–2029 National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Proposed Final Program (September 2023). It would apply to leases for exploration, development, or production on the outer Continental Shelf in that area. It would take effect upon enactment. Offshore companies could not get new leases there, and coastal towns could see fewer new offshore projects.
