Grants for 9-1-1 worker wellness

The bill would define who qualifies: centers that take 9-1-1 calls and do dispatch or related work, and nonprofits like 9-1-1 authorities and public safety associations. It would also define “public safety telecommunicator” by job code 43-5031 and what counts as a peer-support program.

If enacted, HHS would publish best practices to spot, prevent, and treat PTSD and related issues in 9-1-1 workers. HHS would update the guidance over time. The agency would consult health experts, mental health researchers, clinicians, and national telecommunicator groups. HHS would also publish resources to help therapists understand 9-1-1 center culture, job stress, challenges after retirement, and proven treatments.
