ICELAND Act

Sponsored By: Representative Pingree, Chellie [D-ME-1]

Introduced

Summary

Reciprocal E1/E2 visa access for Iceland. This bill would treat Iceland as a foreign state described in section 101(a)(15)(E) of the Immigration and Nationality Act for E1 (treaty trader) and E2 (treaty investor) nonimmigrant visas. That designation applies to clauses (i) and (ii) of that section and only if the Government of Iceland provides comparable nonimmigrant status to U.S. nationals.

Treaty trader and investor visas for Icelanders

If enacted, and if Iceland gives U.S. nationals the same status, Icelandic nationals could apply for treaty trader (E1) or treaty investor (E2) visas. This would let Icelandic business owners and investors come to the U.S. to do trade or manage investments. It would only apply to these two visa types and would depend on Iceland keeping reciprocal access.
