Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Easier green cards for military parents

This bill would create a special path to a green card for some parents of U.S. citizen service members. You would qualify if your U.S. citizen son or daughter serves or served in the military or reserves, and any discharge was honorable. You must also be the beneficiary of an immediate-relative petition filed by that child. You would be treated as if inspected and admitted for your green card application. Some inadmissibility bars would not apply, and others could be waived if you show you are not a public threat and have no crimes unrelated to immigration status.

Military parents: apply abroad, return temporarily

If enacted, eligible parents who were removed or left before enactment could apply for an immigrant visa from abroad. You would need to be a qualifying parent of a U.S. citizen service member with an immediate-relative petition. While your visa and any green card case are pending, you could be allowed to enter the United States temporarily to reunite with your child. You would have to show you are not a risk to public or national security. For this temporary entry, the government could waive some admissibility bars case by case.
