Veterans Administration Backlog Accountability Act of 2025

Sponsored By: Representative Torres, Norma J. [D-CA-35]

In Committee

Summary

Requires an Inspector General report on the VA disability claims backlog. This bill would require the VA Inspector General to deliver a report within 180 days on claims pending under chapter 11 of title 38. The report must describe backlog status and evaluate how the Secretary is addressing it, including recruitment using authorities or funding from the Honoring our PACT Act of 2022. It must assess the impact of any Department staffing reductions since January 20, 2025 on the backlog and evaluate how the backlog affects average adjudication wait times. The IG must assess preparations for a predicted 50 percent increase in claims from the PACT Act, review how new technologies such as automated decision support have contributed to backlog reduction, and conclude with recommendations to further reduce the backlog.
