Sponsored By: Representative Miller-Meeks, Mariannette [R-IA-1]
Passed House
Summary

Show full summary
- Families and caregivers: People traveling a significant distance to support a veteran or covered beneficiary may stay at Fisher Houses when space is available. This includes family members and others who accompany patients for care.
- Active-duty service members: Members on active duty who travel far to get care at VA or non-VA facilities would be eligible for temporary lodging under the same space-available rules and VA criteria.
- VA administration and facilities: The Department of Veterans Affairs must write rules that define eligibility and how space-available access works. The program relies on Fisher Houses built or donated by the Fisher foundations and uses existing lodging authorities.

More Fisher House stays for veterans and troops
If enacted, more people could stay at VA Fisher Houses, which are near VA medical centers, when space is open. Active-duty members who travel a significant distance for care at VA or non-VA sites would be eligible. Veterans, their family members, and other support persons traveling for care would also be eligible. VA would set the rules for who gets space and what counts as “significant distance.” This would not guarantee a room if a Fisher House is full.
Six-month delay on VA pension deadline
If enacted, the bill would move a VA pension payment-limit date from January 31, 2033 to July 31, 2033. That would delay the deadline by six months. It would not change who qualifies or how much is paid.
