Sponsored By: Representative Velázquez, Nydia M. [D-NY-7]
Introduced
Summary
Prohibits DHS immigration officers and agents from wearing clothing, accessories, or other items that bear the word "police" while carrying out immigration-law duties. This bill would add language to the Immigration and Nationality Act to stop Department of Homeland Security immigration personnel, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers and agents, from displaying the word "police" on their person when performing immigration enforcement.

No 'police' labels for immigration officers
The bill would bar immigration officers and agents from wearing items that say "police" during immigration duties. It would cover ICE and CBP staff while they perform immigration work. If enacted, it would take effect right away. This could reduce confusion with local police for immigrants and community members.
