Stronger northern border staffing plans
This bill would require DHS to deliver a northern border threat analysis within 180 days after enactment and update it every five years. Each analysis would report current CBP officer and agent counts versus projected demand. The analyses would assess future retirement surges and mitigation plans, housing challenges, and require local recruiting plans to hire and mentor nearby candidates. DHS would also have to study recruitment and retention tools like direct-hire authority, recruitment/relocation bonuses, extra pay, and student loan repayment programs.
