- Federal agencies and researchers get a single forum: membership includes senior officials from Interior, Agriculture, Commerce, NOAA, NASA, NSF, CDC, EPA, USGS, the Forest Service, and other land and science agencies, plus up to 18 non-federal members representing States, Tribes, local governments, fire departments, researchers, public health, meteorology, modeling experts, and private-sector partners.
- Practitioners and communities benefit from faster research adoption: the Board must identify research ready for operational use, prioritize transition projects, and share findings and best practices through newsletters, online portals, webinars, and workshops.
- Staffing and partnerships are flexible: the Board may appoint staff with pay limits tied to Executive Schedule level V, use federal detailees, partner with federally funded centers and private entities, and non-federal members serve unpaid but may receive travel expenses.
*Authorizes $10.0 million in appropriations to carry out the Board, increasing federal spending by that amount.*
