Possible legal protections for CERN staff
If enacted, the President could extend legal privileges and immunities under the International Organizations Immunities Act to CERN. This would give CERN and its officers and staff the same protections other U.S.-participating international groups get. U.S. researchers, employees, contractors, and institutions working with CERN could be covered, under terms the President sets. Any extension would only happen if allowed by a treaty or an Act of Congress or tied to an appropriation. The bill sets no dates and adds no new funding.
