Transit Bus Affordability Act
Sponsored By: Representative Frost, Maxwell [D-FL-10]
In Committee
Summary
A federal review to tackle the high and rising costs of U.S. transit buses. This bill would require the Comptroller General to examine the main cost drivers in transit bus design and procurement, compare U.S. and foreign manufacturing and price trends over the past 10 years, and analyze how manufacturing and supplier problems affect purchases funded by the Federal Transit Administration, including low- or no-emission and section 5339 grants. The review would assess the effect of State contracts and joint procurement, evaluate steps agencies and industry have taken to cut costs and speed deliveries, identify any additional authorities that could help, and deliver a report to congressional transportation committees within 18 months of enactment.
