Ensuring Continued Access to Funding for Colonias Act
Sponsored By: Representative Gonzales, Tony [R-TX-23]
Introduced
Summary
This bill would amend the Cranston-Gonzalez National Affordable Housing Act to raise the metropolitan statistical area population threshold used for the Community Development Block Grant Colonia Set-Aside Program from 1,000,000 to 2,000,000. Specifically, it replaces "1,000,000" with "2,000,000" in Section 916(e)(4) (42 U.S.C. 5306 note), expanding which metropolitan areas meet the program's population cutoff and can qualify for Colonia set-aside funds.

More colonia funds in midsize metro areas
If enacted, this bill would raise the metro area population cutoff for colonia funding from 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 people. Colonias in MSAs with 2,000,000 people or fewer could newly qualify for Community Development Block Grant colonia set-aside money. This funding could help pay for housing and infrastructure projects. The change would take effect upon enactment.
