Path to Florida Springs National Park Act
Sponsored By: Representative Fine, Randy [R-FL-6]
Introduced
Summary
Would direct a special resource study to decide whether about 2,800 square miles of central and north Florida should become a unit of the National Park System. The bill defines a study area roughly south of Jacksonville, north of Orlando, and east of Gainesville and lists specific national forests, state forests, rivers, springs, preserves, wildlife management areas, and parks that are included. The Secretary of the Interior would evaluate national significance, suitability, and feasibility, consider federal, state, local, or private preservation alternatives, consult interested agencies and organizations, and identify cost estimates for any federal acquisition, development, interpretation, operation, and maintenance. The study must follow title 54 procedures and deliver a report to relevant congressional committees within 3 years after funds are first made available.
