Visible ID for Immigration Officers

This bill would require covered immigration officers to wear visible identification during public immigration enforcement in the United States. The ID would show the agency’s full name or widely known initials and the officer’s last name or a unique badge number. Agency identification must be readable from at least 25 feet and visible in daylight and low-light conditions. The ID must be on the outermost garment or gear and not be obscured by equipment or body armor. Non-medical face coverings that hide the ID or obscure the officer’s face would be barred, except for narrow operational or hazardous-environment exceptions. The Secretary of Homeland Security would discipline officers who fail to comply and would report annually to OCRCL and Congress on enforcement and remedies. OCRCL would receive public complaints, investigate, issue compliance recommendations, and include findings in its annual public report.
