CDC database on local gun-law results
This bill would tell HHS, through the CDC, to set up a searchable database within 1 year of enactment. State and local governments, including cities, towns, counties, and special districts, would submit their gun-violence prevention laws and results. When a government submits a law, it would need to include its size, enactment date, effective date, and before-and-after data on gun violence and gun deaths. Any state or local government could search the database. CDC would do outreach to raise awareness and encourage use. Starting 2 years after enactment, and every 2 years after, CDC would report to Congress on submissions, common topics, which laws appear successful, and areas with high or low participation. The bill would authorize $1.5 million for fiscal year 2026 and $1.0 million for fiscal year 2027 and each year after to run the database, outreach, and reports.
