119-hr-5066119th Congress

Safe Students Act

Sponsored By: Representative Massie, Thomas [R-KY-4]

Introduced

Summary

Removes the federal prohibition on firearms in school zones. This bill would repeal the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 and strike subsection 922(q) of Title 18, United States Code. It would also delete related paragraph designations in section 921(a) and remove cross references in section 924(a). The operative effect is to eliminate the federal school-zone offense while leaving the broader structure of the federal firearms code in place. This changes when federal law can be used to prosecute possession of guns on school property.
