Fewer federal wolf protections in Oregon, Washington
If enacted, the bill would require the Interior Secretary to reissue a 2020 rule (85 Fed. Reg. 69778; Nov. 3, 2020) within 60 days of enactment. The reissued rule would remove federal Endangered Species Act protection for gray wolves only in the States of Oregon and Washington. Households and businesses in those states — including ranchers, tribal communities, hunters, and small businesses near wolf habitat — would see fewer federal limits on land use and different wildlife management and enforcement. Conservation groups, Tribes, and wolves would face reduced federal protections in those states.
