Grants to improve nutrition for young kids
If enacted, this would create the Healthy Kids Grant Program at CDC, coordinated with ACF. It would fund 5-year competitive grants to nonprofits, colleges, or consortia to work with states, Tribes, cities, and nonprofits. Grants would train early care providers and build state capacity. They would test ways to boost healthy eating, increase physical activity, and address food insecurity. Children birth through age 5 in childcare, Head Start, family childcare, and pre-K could benefit where grantees operate; families would not get direct payments. The bill would authorize $5 million each year from 2026 to 2030, plus $1.7 million in 2026 to track progress, and require an outside evaluator and a report to Congress.
