Protecting Farmers from Natural Disasters Act of 2025
Sponsored By: Representative Nunn, Zachary [R-IA-3]
In Committee
Summary
Allows restoration above pre-disaster conditions when it benefits long-term watershed health. The Protecting Farmers from Natural Disasters Act of 2025 would add a new “Level of Restoration” subsection to Section 403 of the Agricultural Credit Act of 1978. It gives the Secretary authority to permit restoration that exceeds pre-disaster conditions when that restoration is in the best interest of long-term watershed protection. The bill also redesignates the existing subsection (b) as subsection (c) and makes no other program or funding changes.

More watershed restoration for farmers
This bill would let the Secretary allow watershed restoration work that restores land above pre-disaster conditions. This would apply to projects carried out under Section 403 of the Agricultural Credit Act of 1978. The Secretary would have to find the work is in the watershed's long-term best interest. This text would not itself provide funding, change who is eligible, or add enforcement rules.
