Claiming Age Clarity Act

Sponsored By: Representative Smucker, Lloyd [R-PA-11]

Passed Senate

Summary

Renames key Social Security retirement-age terms to make claiming ages clearer. The Act directs the Commissioner of the Social Security Administration to replace "early eligibility age" with "minimum monthly benefit age", replace "full retirement age" and "normal retirement age" with "standard monthly benefit age", and discontinue "delayed retirement credit" while referring to age 70 as the "maximum monthly benefit age". The Commissioner must update all rules, guidance, and materials by the later of 12 months after enactment or January 1, 2027. These changes affect wording only and do not change eligibility, benefit calculations, or payments.
