College scholarships for student volunteers
If enacted, this would fund scholarships of $1,000 to $3,000 per year to cut college costs for student volunteers. You would need at least 100 hours in the prior year; awards rise from $1,000 at 100–137 hours up to $3,000 at 250+ hours. First‑time applicants would need to be in their final year of high school or in college; renewals would need to be in college, in good standing, and have 100 hours. Scholarships could cover up to four academic years and only pay cost of attendance; States would prioritize renewals when funds are limited. The bill would authorize $100 million each year for 2026–2030 and allow up to 20% for extra federal awards, with launch within one year.
Paid local government internships for students
This bill would create grants for States and local governments to run paid internships in local government. High school students and undergraduates in the same State could apply; grantees would set pay and selection rules. Grantees would work with colleges to ensure educational value and try to offer flexible schedules or telework where practicable. The bill would authorize $50 million each year for 2026–2030, and the program would start within one year of enactment.
