Social Security help for identity theft victims
Beginning 180 days after enactment, Social Security must provide a dedicated contact team for people whose Social Security number was misused. This includes misuse to get benefits through fraud, affect agency records, or prompt a request for a new number. You also qualify if your Social Security card was lost while being sent to you. Specially trained staff must track your case until it is resolved and work with other agency units to resolve it quickly. Assigned staff can change, but the agency must preserve your case records and history and notify you when appropriate.
