911 SAVES Act of 2025
Sponsored By: Representative Torres, Norma J. [D-CA-35]
Introduced
Summary
Creates consideration for a separate Standard Occupational Classification code for public safety telecommunicators. This bill would ask the Office of Management and Budget to treat 9‑1‑1 call takers as a distinct subset of protective service occupations to better reflect their lifesaving role and exposure to traumatic incidents.
Show full summary
- Public safety telecommunicators: Would be considered for their own SOC code, giving formal recognition intended to align job classifications with the work they do and the trauma they face.
- Federal agencies and Congress: The Office of Management and Budget must review the change during its next SOC revision and if it declines to create the code it must send a report explaining why within 60 days after announcing the decision to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
