More notice before closing contract postal units
If enacted, the Postal Service would have to post a report on customer impacts and how it would keep service before closing or merging a contract postal unit. It would have to hold a public hearing, in person or online, and post a summary within 7 days showing what people said and the percent for or against. It would also send Congress a report on why it plans to close or combine the unit. After the summary is posted, it could not close or consolidate that unit for at least 180 days. These rules would apply to closures starting 6 months after the bill becomes law.
