Military Housing Performance Insight Act

Sponsored By: Representative Bishop, Sanford D. [D-GA-2]

Introduced

Summary

More transparency on privatized military housing would require the Department of Defense to collect and publish more detailed, semi-annual data on on-base housing and use that data to guide housing decisions. The bill restructures reporting and adds specific data elements to show what housing data is used, what is requested from management companies, and how resident satisfaction is measured.

Twice-yearly housing reports for military families

If enacted, the Defense Department would issue its privatized military housing report twice a year. It would post each report on a public DoD website within 30 days of submitting it. The report would list the housing data DoD uses and the data it seeks from private managers. It would explain how each service uses the data to make on-base housing decisions. It would describe the limits of resident satisfaction surveys and why some data may be missing. Where practicable, results would be broken out by installation and by housing project. This could give military renters clearer and faster information.
