Keep D.C. courts funded during gaps
If enacted, the government would provide interim funding when Congress funds these payments one year but not the next. Money would come from Treasury funds not otherwise appropriated. Funding would run at the prior year’s rate and terms. It would start in fiscal year 2025 and cover: D.C. Courts; defender services in D.C. courts (at the 2024 rate); the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency; the D.C. Public Defender Service; the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council; and judicial commissions. If Congress later passes a full appropriation that year, earlier spending would be charged to it and the interim funds would stop.
