Keep the Heat On Act of 2025
Sponsored By: Representative Pappas, Chris [D-NH-1]
Introduced
Summary
Keeps heating assistance flowing during a federal shutdown. This bill would provide an emergency appropriation from Treasury funds not otherwise appropriated so the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program can make payments under section 2602(b) during any lapse in discretionary appropriations in fiscal year 2026. Payments would be made at the same monthly rate as the corresponding month of fiscal year 2025, ensuring eligible households continue to receive support during a funding lapse.

Energy bill help continues in 2026 shutdown
If enacted, LIHEAP-eligible households would keep getting help during any federal funding lapse in fiscal year 2026. Payments for each month would match the payment you got in the same month of 2025. The government would use Treasury money not otherwise appropriated to make these payments. This would only apply during the lapse period(s) and would stop when regular funding resumes.
