60-day deadline for Inspector General requests
This bill would require federal workers, political appointees, agency heads, grantees, subgrantees, contractors, and subcontractors to comply with most Inspector General requests within 60 days. A covered request would include interviews and access to documents, with some legal exceptions. If the IG finds you did not comply, the IG would notify the agency head and Congress within 30 days. That notice would name you or your role, the request date, and the subject (unclassified, with a possible classified annex). Discipline could include removal, suspension without pay, or adverse contract action. The agency head would decide, or the President if the person is the agency head. Within 30 days after enactment, each agency head would have to issue written directives warning staff about these penalties.
