Public database of billion-dollar disasters

If enacted, NOAA would be required to create and maintain a public website listing each U.S. "billion-dollar" disaster. Each entry would show estimated cost, type, location, and date(s), plus charts and maps like the NCEI site used from 1980–2024 and available until May 9, 2025. The site would be updated at least twice a year as new data becomes available. NOAA would keep the 1980–2024 archive online and could add smaller events when appropriate. A "billion-dollar disaster" would mean a storm or severe weather event with $1 billion or more in combined direct and market costs, as determined by NCEI.
