To require the Secretary of Agriculture to release a reversionary interest in certain land in the Black River State Forest in Millston, Wisconsin, and for other purposes.

Sponsored By: Representative Van Orden, Derrick [R-WI-3]

In Committee

Summary

Release the United States' reversionary interest in specific Black River State Forest land in Millston, Wisconsin by conditioning that release on a land exchange that would add about 37.3 acres owned or optioned by Deli, Inc. to the State forest. If Wisconsin conveys roughly 31.8 acres of State forest land to Deli, Inc. and the exchange is approved by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board, and the Governor, the Secretary of Agriculture would provide a quitclaim deed conveying the United States' interest without consideration and may correct legal descriptions.

Release federal claim on Black River forest

If enacted, this bill would release the United States' reversionary interest in about 31.83 acres of Black River State Forest in Millston, Wisconsin. That release would happen only if Wisconsin signs a written agreement to swap that State forest land for about 37.27 acres owned or optioned by Deli, Inc. The swap must be approved by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board, and the Governor of Wisconsin. Before the exchange deeds are recorded, the Secretary of Agriculture would provide a quitclaim deed conveying any U.S. interest without consideration and would act as expeditiously as possible. The Secretary would be allowed to make necessary corrections to the legal description with the State, and the parcels are shown on a June 26, 2023 map. The reversionary interest arises under section 32(c) of the Bankhead-Jones Farm Tenant Act (7 U.S.C. 1011(c)).
