Servicemember Credit Monitoring Enhancement Act
Sponsored By: Representative Stefanik, Elise M. [R-NY-21]
Introduced
Summary
Would expand credit-monitoring protections to all members of the uniformed services. The bill would amend Section 605A(k) of the Fair Credit Reporting Act to replace the phrase 'active duty military consumer' with a new defined term, 'uniformed services member consumer', and to define that term by reference to 10 U.S.C. 101(a), so the statute's credit-monitoring rules apply to anyone who meets the broader uniformed services definition.

More credit protection for service members
If enacted, you would be covered by credit-monitoring protections if you are a member of the uniformed services. The bill would define "uniformed services member consumer" using 10 U.S.C. §101(a). It would replace the phrase "active duty military consumer" with that new term in the credit-monitoring rule. Some Reserve and Guard members could get the same protections as active duty members.
