Continue Capitol Police Pay During Lapse
If enacted, this bill would let the Treasury pay U.S. Capitol Police salaries and benefits during any FY2026 funding lapse. Covered pay includes regular salary, overtime, and hazardous duty pay, plus government contributions for health, retirement, and Social Security. It would also cover professional liability insurance, tuition reimbursement, recruitment and retention bonuses, and other employee benefits. Payments would go to Capitol Police members the Chief calls excepted or performing emergency work. Civilian staff and contractors would get pay only if the Chief determines they provided support. The bill would be effective as if enacted on October 1, 2025 and would pay amounts for that period as soon as practicable after enactment. The authority ends when Congress enacts FY2026 Capitol Police funding, when legislative branch appropriations omit these items, or on September 30, 2026, whichever comes first.
