Pay Our Patriots Act
Sponsored By: Representative Mast, Brian J. [R-FL-21]
Introduced
Summary
Guaranteed pay for military and essential FAA personnel during funding gaps. This bill would allow the Treasury to provide the funds necessary to continue paying covered Armed Forces members, including reserve components, and FAA civilian employees the FAA Administrator determines are essential to safe national airspace operations. Pay, allowances, and benefits, including statutory bonuses and retired pay, would be paid at the rates in effect immediately before the lapse and the Secretaries of Defense, Homeland Security, and Transportation would continue to incur obligations and disburse payments until regular appropriations are enacted or the fiscal year ends. Those funds would be immediately available and not subject to reduction or sequestration.

Keep pay for military and FAA employees
If passed, this would keep pay flowing to certain military and key FAA workers during any funding gap for those agencies that starts after enactment. You would be paid at the same rate as before the gap, using Treasury funds that are available right away and not subject to cuts or sequestration. Who qualifies: Armed Forces members on active service (including reserves), and FAA civilians the FAA Administrator deems essential to safe air operations (like controllers, safety inspectors, and technicians). Payments would run until Congress passes regular or stopgap funding, or until the last day of that fiscal year, whichever comes first. Defense, Homeland Security, and Transportation would have to keep obligating and paying as if funding had been passed on time.
