Bill Overview
Analyzed Economic Effects
2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.
More emergency food aid for households
The government would appropriate $462.5 million from the Treasury for emergency food assistance under section 27 (TEFAP). The money would be available until spent and would support food banks, distributors, and households that get emergency food help. The funds would be usable when other appropriated funds are insufficient to avoid reducing benefit amounts, or when the Agriculture Secretary determines budget authority is insufficient; they would be available during a lapse in appropriations and after such a lapse. The change would be treated as if enacted on September 30, 2025.
Protect emergency food workers from furlough
Services of any officer, employee, or contractor who carries out TEFAP emergency food work would be deemed emergency services under the federal furlough statute (31 U.S.C. 1342). That would exempt those workers from furlough rules and help keep food distribution and commodity orders running during funding lapses. The provision would be treated as if enacted on September 30, 2025.
