Sponsored By: Representative Jack, Brian [R-GA-3]

Passed House

Summary

Creates authority for one-time lump-sum relocation payments for federal employees. The bill would let agencies pay a single lump-sum instead of the itemized relocation payments now authorized under Title 5, and it requires rules for how amounts are set and how employees can appeal.

Lump-sum moving payment for federal workers

If enacted, your agency would be able to give you one lump-sum payment when you must move for government work. The agency head (or a designee) would need to approve it. The lump sum would be paid instead of separate relocation reimbursements. The General Services Administration would set rules on when agencies can use this option, how to calculate the amount, and how you can dispute a claim. You would have the right to appeal to the Civilian Board of Contract Appeals. Agencies would also need to report use and results within three years, and GSA would send an analysis to Congress within 90 days after receiving the data.
