Introduced
Summary
Counts SROTC time toward an officer's total military service. This bill would change how length of service is calculated for people appointed as officers after satisfactorily completing the Senior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (SROTC).
Show full summary
- Officers commissioned through SROTC would have their advanced SROTC training counted when computing their length of service. This applies to any individual appointed on the basis of completing the SROTC program.
- Service-credit rules would be clarified for prior enlisted and reserve service. Time served as a member of the Selected Reserve on August 1, 1979 would count toward length of service, and enlisted service performed before the bill's enactment would count regardless of the component in which it was performed.

More service credit for ROTC officers
If enacted, this would let officers appointed after completing Senior ROTC count more prior enlisted service toward length of service. That could increase longevity pay and retirement credit for those officers. It would count service on August 1, 1979 as a member of the Selected Reserve. It would also count any enlisted service as of the enactment date, no matter the component. It would take effect upon enactment and only applies to officers appointed based on completing the ROTC advanced program.
