Bill Overview
Analyzed Economic Effects
4 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.
Lower immigration fees for unaccompanied children
If enacted, people who are or were determined to be unaccompanied alien children would be exempt from many immigration-related fees. The change would cover asylum fees, asylum application fees, border apprehension fees, employment authorization document (EAD) fees for initial and renewals, immigration court fees, and fees tied to in absentia removal. The fee exemptions and the SIJ fee ban would start upon enactment, so qualifying households would pay less out of pocket.
Refunds for fees repealed by the bill
If enacted, the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Attorney General would have to refund any fee that this Act repeals or changes. Refunds would be paid to each individual who previously paid a covered fee, and must be completed no later than 180 days after enactment. You would get money back only if you paid a fee that this bill repeals or amends.
Protect sponsor data from immigration use
If enacted, the Department of Health and Human Services would be required to stop sharing information collected under section 87001 with the Department of Homeland Security or other federal agencies for enforcing immigration laws. This would limit using sponsor or child data for deportation-related enforcement. The restriction would take effect upon enactment and aim to protect privacy and safety for sponsors and unaccompanied children.
Repeal of named PL 119-21 provisions
If enacted, the bill would repeal three specific parts of Public Law 119-21: Section 100051(11), Section 100051(8), and Section 87001(b)(3). The repeal would take effect upon enactment. The practical effects depend on the content of those parts and how agencies change rules afterward, so the change could help some people and remove requirements or fees for others.
