Preshevo Valley Discrimination Assessment Act
Sponsored By: Representative Self, Keith [R-TX-3]
In Committee
Summary
Assessing discrimination against ethnic Albanians in Serbia's Preshevo Valley. This bill would require the Secretary of State, within 180 days of enactment, to prepare and submit to the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee a report on the treatment of ethnic minorities in the Preshevo Valley. The report must examine whether authorities have deactivated Albanian residential addresses and blocked ID renewals that affect rights like voting, whether Albanian-language diplomas and school textbooks are recognized and provided, whether Albanian language use and cultural symbols are restricted, whether ethnic Albanians are proportionally included in public institutions, whether majority-Albanian municipalities receive lower central grants, whether police intimidate local Albanians, the level of support for Albanian media and culture, whether mandatory military service is being considered for ethnic Albanians, and whether any measures deliberately increase poverty or make life unsustainable.
