PFAS grants for contaminated farms

If enacted, the bill would create a USDA grant program to help farms and agricultural land contaminated by PFAS. The program would authorize $500 million for fiscal years 2026 through 2029 and require at least 30% of each year’s funds go to areas with populations under 3,000,000. A State, DC, U.S. territory, or Indian Tribe would be eligible only if agricultural soil or production water in its territory has PFAS levels the Secretary and EPA determine unsafe, with State standards considered. Eligible governments would apply with a spend plan, must report yearly to USDA and Congress, and would prioritize help for producers with PFAS-related financial losses. Grant funds would be allowed for health monitoring (including blood serum testing), buying or disposing of contaminated land or products, direct financial assistance or income replacement to affected producers, investments to keep farms profitable or transition operations, testing, research, education, marketing help, and related activities.

USDA PFAS task force created

If enacted, the bill would require the Secretary of Agriculture to form a PFAS Task Force made of USDA employees. The task force would advise on adding PFAS activities to USDA programs, evaluate actions for farms already enrolled in USDA programs where PFAS is detected, and provide technical help to eligible governments handling contamination.
